BP2_2010044_DiscoveringWeb2.0 tools

The Web 2.0 tool I chose was Wise Mapping.  This site allows the user to create a mind map.  It's very similar to another program I have used called Inspiration.  The user may utilize existing photographs or clip art and create mind maps around that.  The user is in total control of the size and shape of the mind map.

This is an awesome tool because everyone needs to use brainstorming or other pre-writing techniques to set the stage for good stories and this tool definitely fits those criteria.  Students as young as pre-K could use this with help using scanned drawings or photographs.  Writing, especially for young students should be based on things they know.  Young children have become very computer savvy over the past few years and are definitely up to the task of using this brainstorming tool.

This tool could be explored during whole group time using a projector or shared in small group time.  Shapes, colors, as well as freehand drawing can be utilized with Wise Mapping. It is important for students to make connections between thoughts and ideas.  Wise Mapping is the perfect vehicle for that.
